Recommended Dog Food

There are several different brands of Dog Food that we have researched and use. We recommend a high protein diet, as well as a good amount of fat and wholesome grains. We do not recommend a grain-free diet, as recent studies have linked grain-free diets to heart and health issues such as heart disease, enlarged hearts, elevated heart rates and more. We think it is very important for your dog to have a good balanced diet with good healthy macros. If there is any investment you can make towards your dog’s health, a good dog food is top priority. Many things like cancer, heart disease, gut issues, hip & joint issues can be avoided by using a good quality dog food. We also recommend giving your pet a good multi/daily vitamin to ensure they are getting all the nutrients they need starting at 12 weeks old. We also recommend switching dog foods every 6 months to support a healthy gut. It is always a good idea to do this gradually.

The first few days your puppy is home, they may not have a big appetite with all the changes happening. If you feel your puppy isn’t eating enough, it may help to mix in some canned wet food to entice them to eat. All of our puppies are fully weaned and used to eating dry kibble alone by the time they leave, so this usually isn’t an issue, but loss of appetite is a common side effect of stress. Make sure your puppy is eating their daily servings as well as drinking plenty of water. Always have water available to your puppy. Limiting water intake will often cause UTI’s which can make them have little control over their bladder, not only is it painful but can also make it very difficult to potty train. A lot of people mistake this for a “nervous piddle” but often is later diagnosed as a UTI.

Important: Please chat with us about what dog food your puppy has been started on before purchasing food. As we have several favorites, each litter may have a different food depending on size and nutritional needs. You are more than welcome to switch dog foods to your preference, but we recommend doing it gradually.
